Objectives of IPICS

1. Promoting a cross-disciplinary view of security

The teachers are IT security experts from universities around Europe. Many of them have participated in former IPICS courses. The experts come from a wide range of backgrounds and are thus able to address security from all of its facets, mathematical, engineering, legal, social, and managerial. Most of the presenters have acted as consultants for industry or governmental agencies.

2. Creating a European culture of security education

In an earlier project the IPICS teachers group has developed a curriculum for a European Master’s Programme on Information and Communications Security within the framework of the SOCRATES Programme. For the past years the IPICS schools have been the platform for delivering part of the program and for developing education in IT security and keeping pace with new emerging threats to the networked world.

3. Stimulating Research in all related disciplines

The summer school is intended to mainly address postgraduate students from European universities. These students come from a mixed background - from business informatics to IT engineering. All previous occurrences of the IPICS summer school and the 9 occurrences in the IPICS  winter school experienced a very inspiring atmosphere where students and teachers met each other in a relaxed situation. In the past, many  students got in contact with their PhD-topics and their supervisor during IPICS.
